Mehfil by Zoe Tan

In this inaugural edition of Mehfil, Bhaskar's Arts Academy is proud to present Zoe Tan, disciple of Guru Pallavi Sharma. Putting the spotlight on the solo dancer, the Mehfil series hopes to raise the profile and enhance the visibility of the Kathak dance form in Singapore.

Zoe will be presenting a traditional Kathak repertoire choreographed by Guru Pallavi Sharma, that showcases the dance form's unique layakari, intricate footwork and dizzying pirouettes. From the invocatory Vandana and descriptive Gat Bhav to the expressive Thumri and rhythmic complexities of the Tarana, Zoe promises to bring audiences on a transcendental journey.

Mehfil in Hindi refers to a gathering of common interests, where people come together to enjoy performances, share stories, or engage in discussions. It is associated with warmth, camaraderie, and artistic expression, often in a cozy or intimate setting.

About Zoe Tan
Zoe Tan has been training in Kathak for the past five years under the guidance of Guru Pallavi Sharma at Bhaskar's Arts Academy's teaching wing Nrityalaya Aesthetics Society.

Over the years, Zoe has performed at several platforms both locally and internationally. Her notable performances include those at the annual Bhaskareeyam as part of the Prasaantham series, the Gastech Exhibition in Singapore, the Arts and Aesthetics Foundation International Dance Festival in New Delhi and Bali, the Abhisaar Kathak Dance Festival in Singapore, the Kalaa Utsavam Dance Festival held at Esplanade in Singapore and a special showcase at The Istana, Singapore’s presidential residence.
