Mehfil by Swathi Madhavan

Mehfil - a Hindi word which refers to a gathering of common interests, where people come together to enjoy performances, share stories, or engage in discussions. It is associated with warmth, camaraderie, and artistic expression, often in a cozy or intimate setting. By putting the spotlight on the solo dancer, the Mehfil series hopes to continue elevating the standard of Kathak in Singapore while raising the profile and enhancing the visibility of the dance form.

In this second edition of Mehfil, Bhaskar's Arts Academy is proud to present Swathi Madhavan, Kathak choreographer, performer and arts educator in Singapore. Trained under Guru Afsar Khan at SIFAS, Swathi is currently pursuing advanced studies in Kathak. 

Swathi will be presenting Kathak Arpan - an immersive showcase of traditional Kathak, celebrating the timeless elegance, rhythmic precision, and emotive depth of this classical art form. Presenting a complete repertoire - including a Vandana, intricate Taal compositions, nuanced storytelling through Abhinaya, a spirited Tarana, and more, Kathak Arpan honors the rich heritage and aesthetic purity of Kathak.
