Aathma Arpanam

Aathma Arpanam

For our 70th anniversary celebrations, we empowered three of BAA's seasoned dancers to present a solo performance as part of the Prasaantham series. In this final episode, Malini Bhaskar presents Aathma Arpanam.

Aathma Arpanam is Malini Bhaskar’s personal dedication to her dearest grandfather and grandmother, pioneer dancers Mr and Mrs KP Bhaskar. Coming from a family of artistes, Malini was exposed to Bharatnatyam at a tender age and her life was inevitably intertwined with the arts. Her grandmother was not only her source of inspiration but also her role model, and she had hoped for Malini to stage a solo show to showcase the latter’s talents. Malini’s grandparents had always taught her to stay true to herself and the artform, and to dance for herself and not for anyone else. Aathma Arpanam is an expression of the soul of a dancer and is a reflection of the lessons Malini had learnt from her grandparents. With pieces specially conceptualised and choreographed by Maalika Panicker, a choice by Mrs Bhaskar herself, Malini hopes that this performance not only showcases her growth as a dancer but also as a person.
