Aatmadarsa – Through the Looking-Glass

Just as Carnatic musician Muthuswami Dikshitar was inspired by Scottish and Irish tunes and fashioned the Nottuswara collection, Anglo-Irish composer William Hamilton Bird collected Indian songs and melodies and published them with arrangements for voice and keyboard.

If you are curious for a closer look at how the Indians and the British saw each other’s music, join us as we team up with Cappella Martialis, a group that specialises in early European music, and enjoy some of the two composers’ works from the 18th century.
