Brihannala

A lesser known episode from the epic Mahabharata, this story describes the events during the final year of the Pandavas’ 13-year exile. It is the period they were directed by the Kauravas – their arch-rivals – to remain incognito. Should they be recognised, the Pandavas risk spending another 12 years of exile in the forest.

They each assume a variety of disguises in Virata’s kingdom. Arjuna takes the role of dance master and eunuch Brihannala, a part he was able to play successfully due to Urvashi’s curse. What happens during the year? Will all be revealed?
